Hudson Job Search would not have the ability to help the unemployed and underemployed to secure new positions without our army of volunteers. From our Monday Night Speakers, email marketing and website updates to individual job coaching from our Advisors and leadership from our Board of Trustees, Hudson Job Search volunteers make the system work for the job seekers. We take this month to feature a member of the Hudson Job Search Board of Trustees, Kathy Sullivan, and her many contributions to the organization with this interview:
Professional Background
Kathy Sullivan has over 25 years of experience in business operations, strategic human resources leadership, coaching and management consulting experience- influencing and interacting with all levels including executives and boards. As Principal and Owner of Talent Principles LLC., Kathy is a business consultant and executive coach, supporting clients to improve organizational performance by providing solutions at the individual, team and organizational levels.
Q: What inspired you to become an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?
A: To support the development of job seekers and help them identify what is important to them. Connecting people to their talents and helping them find opportunities that leverages their strengths and brings purpose to their lives. And because it’s an opportunity to give back to the community and support the economic development of Cleveland and surrounding communities.
Q: How long have you been an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?
A: I have served on the Board of Trustees for over two years.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role as an Advisor with the organization?
A: I enjoy collaborating with other professionals and experts to drive results within our organization and within our community. It’s a great opportunity to leverage my skills and knowledge, but also learn from other diverse professionals toward collective goals.
Q: What’s your favorite Hudson Job Search story?
This one! Recently one of our colleagues (Peter Flemming) obtained a new lease on life when one of our clients (Frank Ricard) donated a kidney to assist Peter who previously had no luck finding a kidney donor. Peter has recovering nicely and Frank Ricard is back in job search mode.
Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming a Hudson Job Search Advisor?
A:It is a great opportunity to help others build confidence, provide them with the tools, support, and network, to find new job opportunities.
Q: How did you learn how to advise Job Seekers?
A: Given my background in HR and leadership development, as well as coaching, I think it comes naturally. You have to understand what is important to others, help them find a vision for their future, and meet them where they are. Encouraging others to stretch beyond what they believe is possible, and watching them succeed is very rewarding. We all need people who believe in us, especially for people who are out of work and may lack confidence in themselves.
Q: If Hudson Job Search could do anything, with limitless donations, what would you like to see the organization accomplish in the next 5 years?
A: I would like to see us well exceed our strategic objectives. But more importantly, continue serving our communities to help people find employment, a sense of stability, and purpose.
