So you have finally done it, you graduated from college — which is exciting for some but also terrifying for others. Finding your first professional job to set you on a successful career can be daunting. We’re here to help you make that first step. In today’s blog, we will be going over the best jobs for recent college graduates.
Technology and Software
Software engineering is a high paying career with lots of room for growth. Typically software developers earn $100k+ after around two to three years of experience. Not to mention that the industry is growing along with its demand. Even if you did not study programing in school, there are programs available to help you learn.
General Assembly: This is a coding boot camp that you can attend in person. Their programs are held in major cities such as Chicago, New York, Boston, Dallas, and many more.
Lambda School: This is a 9-month program designed to teach you advanced programming skills. What’s great about this program is that there is no upfront cost. Students can agree to pay a percentage of their income after they are employed, and only if they are making more than $50k salary.
LinkedIn Learning: LinkedIn offers more than just networking tools. LinkedIn Learning provides more than 10,000 courses (programming included).
Digital Marketing
If you have a Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat account, you have been exposed to digital marketing. You can get into this field with a college degree and a good understanding of how these platforms work. Companies across the world are in dire need to grow their online presence. It’s hard to find one without some online marketing. Areas that are in high demand include email marketing, search engine optimization, and UX web development. The most knowledge and highest-paid digital marketers are in their 20’s right now. Earning potential in this field can start anywhere from $50-60k a year. Do some research online about the area and even check out some brand influencers that do this for a living. I suggest checking out Casey Neistat’s Youtube channel.
Sales
Believe it or not but statistics say that no matter your major, 50% of college graduates go into sales. Sales can teach you valuable lessons that will help you throughout your career. Skills such as persuasion, resiliency, and consistency. You may ask yourself, “why would I even consider going into sales?”. I have one word for you, commission. You can make a ton of money if you are successful in sales. Around 70% of billionaires say that their first job was in sales. Sales can be natural for the talkative or personable type. If you consider yourself shy or hate cold calling, then this career may not be the right fit for you.
Takeaway
Now keep in mind that you do not need a business degree to get into any of these career fields. College degrees say a lot more than what you majored in. You had to take general education courses that taught you skills that nearly all careers demand. Furthermore, you learned how to work in groups, meet deadlines, and handled multiple classes at once. I’m sure that any college graduate with a good work ethic will not have much difficulty finding their career path.
