Jill Willis: Volunteering a Hudson Job Search Advisor

Hudson Job Search is delighted to introduce Jill Willis, one of our newer Advisors who brings more than two decades of Human Resources experience to the organization.

Professional Background: Jill Willis

Jill has spent 20+ years in the HR field, primarily in the manufacturing industry, where she has focused on aligning people strategies with business goals to help organizations achieve success. What she is most passionate about, however, is helping individuals succeed in their careers. Coaching, mentoring, and guiding others through their professional journeys has always been one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

How did you first hear about Hudson Job Search, and what inspired you to become an HJS Advisor?
I was doing outreach on my own in the community through the Buy Nothing Hudson Facebook page, helping others with their resumes and coaching them on interview prep. Someone suggested I look into HJS as an opportunity to serve the community through a more structured avenue. I reached out through the HJS website and was quickly connected with Michael, who invited me to join as an advisor. It was a no brainer! I am excited to hopefully make an impact on peoples lives through being an advisor.

What do you enjoy most about helping job seekers?
Seeing their growth personally and professionally through the journey, and their excitement about the wins (big & small!) along the way.

What would you say to someone who is considering becoming an HJS Advisor?
It's a great organization, with people who are truly committed to helping others and making an impact in the community. Do it! The more advisors we have join HJS, the more people we can help!

How did you learn to advise job seekers?
Being in Human Resources my whole career, it came naturally to me. I find coaching people to be a very rewarding aspect of my role in HR and as a HJS advisor.

If Hudson Job Search had the people and resources, what changes or other services would you like to see the organization offer in the coming years?
As a new advisor, I'm still learning the organization and all it has to offer. I think connecting people to other services or organizations that can help them build job specific skills would be a great opportunity for HJS to look at in the future.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their job search or recently unemployed?
Take a deep breath, take it one step at a time, follow the process, and network, network, network! HJS offers great resources and networking opportunities, so take advantage of them.

Anything else you’d like to add?
I want to say thank you for trusting me to be a part of HJS as an advisor. I'm excited to continue to help others find their dream job!
