Professional Background

My work experience began in the Restaurant business washing dishes, busing tables, and then as a Waiter as I paid my way through college. Serving other people early in my career provided me with many life lessons that shaped my professional career. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Business Administration, I began working as a Production Manager with Colwell Systems in Illinois. After the company was acquired by Deluxe Corporation my career evolved into IT Project Management, and then Training & Human Resources. When Deluxe built a new Production Facility in Streetsboro, Ohio, I pursued and was selected to be the Manager of Human Resources. It was a wonderful move for myself and my family. Opening a brand new facility is one of my fondest professional experiences. I continued in this role until I retired from Deluxe after being with this great company for 33 years. I enjoyed some fully retired time but missed the connections and interactions as an HR Professional, so I was fortunate to find a job as Part-Time HR Director at Tactical Transportation Advisors. I’ve continued in this role for the past 4 years.

Q: What inspired you to become an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?

A: I’ve always focused on being generous and serving others. I feel called to be a humble servant, and I’ve learned so much as an HR professional that I wanted to use these skills to help others. I really enjoy getting to know people at a deeper level and striving to lift them up as they work through all the emotions and challenges of looking for a new job.

Q: How long have you been an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?

A: 20 years.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role as an Advisor with the organization?

A: Meeting with new job seekers and learning about their life story and helping them get to where they want to go next.

Q: What’s your favorite Hudson Job Search story?

I’ve developed so many new connections and relationships with job seekers throughout these past 20 years I can’t think of one “favorite” story.

Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming a Hudson Job Search Advisor?

A: I would tell them to “go for it”! Being an HJS Advisor is such a great way to serve others and enrich your life in the process.

Q: How did you learn how to advise Job Seekers?

A:  I was very blessed throughout my career to work closely with people seeking a new job. I did a lot of recruiting, so I was conversing with job seekers all the time. Hudson Job Search has a structured program as a guide for Advisors to follow as they work with a new Job Seeker. It’s a great program with proven success. I think that anyone with empathy and a concern for their fellow person can be a successful Job Advisor.

Q: If Hudson Job Search could do anything, with limitless donations, what would you like to see the organization accomplish in the next 5 years?

A: I would like to see the organization expand in area and scope. Our focus is mostly on “professional” job seekers in the Hudson community. People in the surrounding areas that are more economically challenged could benefit greatly from some fundamental job preparedness training. Job seekers pursuing entry level jobs in the Trades and Manufacturing could really use help, support, and connections. Explore opportunities to bring Job Seekers and Employers together. Move HJS support and services beyond “professional” jobs to all job levels and communities facing greater challenges.
