Seth Lamp: Volunteering in Hudson as an HJS Advisor for Job Seekers
Hudson Job Search is proud to spotlight Seth Lamp, one of our newest dedicated Advisors who brings both professional expertise and personal experience to his role in guiding job seekers.
Professional Background: Seth Lamp
Seth is the Manager of Talent Pipeline Programs at Swagelok in Solon, Ohio, where he leads initiatives to source talent from universities, high schools, technical schools, and veteran pipelines. Before entering the corporate world, Seth served seven years in the U.S. Army, holding multiple leadership positions including Intelligence Officer-in-Charge, Recruiting Executive and Operations Officer, and Deputy Program Manager. In his final role, he commanded the Army’s largest intelligence company, overseeing more than 200 Soldiers. His professional background spans project management, partnership building, talent acquisition, and talent management.
How did you first hear about Hudson Job Search, and what inspired you to become an HJS Advisor?
Seth first connected with Hudson Job Search during his own transition out of the Army. After experiencing first-hand the value of an Advisor’s coaching, mentoring, and networking support, he knew he wanted to give back. Just six months into the new role his Advisor helped him land, Seth joined HJS as an Advisor himself.
How long have you been an Advisor, and what do you enjoy most about helping job seekers?
While Seth is just beginning his role as an advisor, he finds volunteering in this role extremely rewarding. Seth says it’s the mutual experience: “I’ve been in their situation and learned so much throughout the process. Sharing lessons learned, building connections, and coaching makes the Advisor/client relationship very enjoyable.”
What would you say to someone who is considering becoming an HJS Advisor?
For anyone considering becoming an Advisor, Seth emphasizes that any advice or connection — no matter how small — can have a significant impact on a job seeker’s confidence and direction. Volunteering is a way to continually pay it forward and support others during a challenging time.
How did you learn to advise job seekers?
I learned through my advisor (Maura McDonald), networking with others, HJS many resources including Monday meetings, and through my role at Swagelok. I had many mentors and coaches throughout my search that I do my best to be like.
If Hudson Job Search had unlimited resources, what service would you love to see the organization offer in the future?
Adding a place to post roles or potential leads for current clients on a private webpage for clients only.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their job search or recently unemployed?
View the situation as an opportunity, specifically finding your next best fit. Challenge yourself to look at different industries, roles, and explore how your skills align. It is a chance to reflect on whether to look for a similar role or pivot.
Anything else you’d like to add?
HJS and the advisors will match the effort clients put in. If you are putting the time and effort into your search, you advisor will be there step by step and the secret sauce will work.
