For over 10 years Hudson Job Search has had the benefit of hosting Marvin Montgomery as a speaker for our Monday night meetings. These meetings are open to the public and geared towards the job seeker to learn new strategies for securing their ideal employment situation. Marvin Montgomery has been such a favorite speaker for this audience, as they have enjoyed topics including “The Power of Attitude,” “It’s All About Perspective for Your Job Search,” and the upcoming ” “Selfies” for a Successful Interview ,” that they’ll say they’ve been “Marvinized.”
After several years of “Marvinizing” our job seekers and “Getting Marvinized” ourselves, we were finally able to recruit Marvin Montgomery as an Advisor. Our Advisors are volunteers that help our job seekers, as their dedicated coach, with one-on-one attention and follow-up. Learn more about Marvin’s history as a volunteer with Hudson Job Search and everything he has, and continues to, contribute to our organization and the community:
Q: What inspired you to become an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?
A: (watch the video to see Marvin’s response to this question in an interview from 2020.)
“I’m actually a speaker at a number of job search groups in the area but I was so enthralled with this one; the structure, the format, the people, that I became an Advisor.”
Q: How long have you been an Advisor with Hudson Job Search?
A: I became an Advisor just two years ago, but I have been a speaker for almost ten years, donating my skills to help job seekers change their perspective and be more positive during times of transition.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role as an Advisor with the organization?
A: (watch the video to see Marvin’s response to this question in an interview from 2020.)
“The matching of the Advisor to fit the person coming in for this opportunity, there’s a lot that goes into it… (..The structure, foundation and leadership) to take you from Point A to Point B, which is hopefully that ultimate job opportunity. So I think we really do a good job of walking people through this whole process.”
Providing support and guidance during their transitional period.
Q: What’s your favorite Hudson Job Search story?
A: My favorite story is that I was able to work with my first two clients who both landed jobs within the first two weeks. It’s very rewarding to experience.
Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about working with a Hudson Job Search Advisor?
A: Commit to the entire process and you will be employed again before you know it.
Q: How did you learn how to advise Job Seekers?
A: The system is laid out so that almost anyone who chooses to become an Advisor can easily facilitate the process. However, I was able to draw on my prior Coaching experience.
(We imagine helping others to be positive, confident and go for what they want must be second nature after a lifetime as a sales trainer and motivational speaker. We are very lucky to have Marvin on our team.)
Q: If Hudson Job Search could do anything, with limitless donations, what would you like to see the organization accomplish in the next 5 years?
A: In our community we have attracted volunteers of a limited demographic. In order to relate to a more diverse group of job seekers I feel we will need to be more intentional with becoming a more diverse group of Advisors.
